In my eyes, the cypress is more than a tree; it is a symbol of freedom of spirit, steadfastness and roots that remain firm through time.

In this work, the cypress and the boteh motif are intertwined, telling of a spirit that preserves its identity and authenticity in the face of life's changes and adversities.

The golden ground symbolises the value and lasting nature of cultural heritage; yet its radiance has no smooth, flawless surface. Its creases and irregularities reflect the ups and downs and hardships that life leaves behind.

The cypress remains standing firm amid these irregularities; as though reminding us that freedom of spirit finds its meaning not in the absence of difficulties, but in the ability to stand firm against them.

The illumination motifs surrounding the work create a bond between past and present; a bond in which the beauty and authenticity of Persian art intertwine with the ideas of perseverance and freedom.

“The Free Cypress” tells of roots that remain, hardships that pass, and a figure that still stands tall.

Salute to the light
